Tech It or Leave It | Youff
Welcome to the Youff tech zone where over the next couple of issues we are going to talk about tech news, gadgets games and anything dope happening in the world of the geeks. For the first issue let’s talk about the worlds most valuable company. Apple
It’s spring in the Southern Hemisphere which means we are about to get a new iPhone unveiled to us. Well with corona maybe not. Apple decided not to unveil a new iPhone at their annual September event this year. This is possibly due to how supply chains and manufacturing around the world was affected by the pandemic.
There was an official announcement from apple say that the “iPhone 12” or “iPhone 11s” will be dropped a few weeks later than usual.
It wasn’t all gloom and doom cause for us with apple products its that time of the year the software gets a make over. This year that make over is called iOS 14. I have been using iOS 14 on two iPhones already, because I broke the iPhone 8 and insurance was kind enough to buy me an iPhone 11 (just the 11, with two cameras not three cause I’m a poor man guys) and all I can say is MAKE SPACE to download this super internal boost to the iPhone.
Before I dive into the highlight features, just off the bat I felt a speed up in the phones daily operations, especially while I was still using the beta version on the 8th version of the iPhone. Once I moved over to the iPhone 11 it was not so much about the speed but the little things that apple has done to make the iOS platform a little better than it was the year before.
You can tell that this is an Apple fan boy writing, but that’s what I truly appreciate about Apple as a company that makes products. They seem to some how make you fall in-love with a product you bought years ago with a software update.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and no Android users… you can’t download this from the Play Store.
Main Features:
New Siri, Siri will no longer take up the whole screen thank you very much. She now appears as multicoloured blob with voice recognition.
Widget, yes I know android has had widgets forever but its finally here hooray.
CarPlay wallpapers, I don’t own a car so I don’t care but seeing as people have WhatsApp wallpapers I’m sure this is good news for someone.
Phone calls: you can ignore people!
Set your own default mail or browser app: if you are a weirdo and don t use safari and mail app. You can now use chrome and gmail as default apps for your iPhone.
*Double & triple tap back
*App library: a new way to organise your apps… like in an android.
*Automatic switching with AirPods. You now just have to open the AirPods next to the device you want to use. Its pretty cool and this is why my next frivolous purchase will be AirPods.
*Obviously new privacy features, and rumour p-i-p for YouTube.
*Notable adds from Apple:
*Apple Fitness+ your own personal trainer powered by your Apple Watch
*Apple one Bundle:
By the time you read this iOS will be out and you would have already tried it. Let us know what you think of the new features and if you found any features we didn’t mention that you really like.
