More recently, he starred as supporting lead in playwright Jerry Pooe’s 1976, which premiered at the Durban Playhouse on June 17th, 18th and 19th. The Production features Mthobisi Khanyile, Thobeka Ndwandwe, Melusi Yeni, Baby Cele, Nhlakanipho Maphumulo, Nokuthula Mabika and Sthembiso Zungu, with creative input from Mondli Ngcobo. 1976 was staged to commemorate June 16th and the youth of 1976 who took to the streets in protest and stood up the Apartheid system that, already oppressive, wanted to set black school children back further – by introducing Afrikaans as the primary medium of instruction.
