Durban’s First Lady of Hip Hop, Lex LaFoy released her latest music video for Nomthandazo featuring Maskandi great Dr. Buselaphi Gxowa this Valentines day, calling it her “Prayer for Love”. The song was produced by BMS from Inanda - the very same producer behind I Dare You and her previous single Durban Magic, all taken off her 2021 album NewWorldDaughter.

Dr Buselaphi featured on The Chorus and Outro of Nomthandazo

Unlike the edginess of some of her previous work, Lex approaches this one with a softer more playful tone, that reminds us of her feature in Cozy with T.S.A. Proving that a Gemini can actually be both soft and hard at the safe time. When asked about the making of the song Lex had this to say:

“Writing Nomthandazo was such a pleasure. From the verses to the chorus - I encountered emotions that needed to be captured in the form of a song, that would one day hold me, and return to me multiplied. It really is a plea for that good, wholesome love”. The introduction was penned by Lex as an actual prayer, while the outro by Buselaphi came about as a freestyle during the recording session at Purple Keys Studios in Johannesburg.

The music video itself, shot in the style of a short film, was produced by Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) based production company One Blood Sound and was directed and edited by filmmaker Nomakhomazi Dewavrin.
