Originating from Dutch roots, the name "Malva" translates to "marshmallow," giving a nod to its soft and gooey texture. This delightful dessert has been a South African favourite for generations, often gracing tables during family gatherings, celebrations, and cozy fall evenings.

Malva Pudding is more than just a dessert; it's a flavourful chapter in South Africa's culinary history. Crafted with love, it combines the rich taste of apricot jam, the warmth of a sponge cake, and the indulgence of a toffee-like sauce. Malva Pudding Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 pinch of salt
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tablespoon apricot jam
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 cup milk
Sauce:
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup hot water
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a baking dish.
In a large bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, beat sugar, egg, apricot jam, and vinegar until well combined.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Sauce:
In a saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients and heat until the sugar dissolves.
Pour the hot sauce over the warm pudding as soon as it comes out of the oven.
Allow the pudding to soak up the sauce for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Variations:
